Wedding Speeches
Figure of speech
Wedding Speeches can be the most nerve wrecking of all the wedding day formalities. Weather you are nervous about what to say or what someone else is about to say, hopefully our tips will ease the pain!
Where to begin
All speeches, rather like stories need to have an opening, middle and end. The opening is the easy bit, thank everyone for coming, comment on the gorgeous meal you have just enjoyed or the blessing of a sunny day. The end of the speeches should be a toast to the happy couple. The middle part is where it can get rather messy!
Father of the bride
Traditional the father of the bride should welcome the groom to his family and add a few anecdotes about his daughter and the special times they have shared. The best man should share a few funny tales about the groom and his past (although mentioning past girlfriends is a no!) and possibly shed a little light on stag do events and stories. Although depending on what the groom actually got up to this one needs a little though! Expectations of the best man's speech are high (not to add any pressure). Plenty of tips/jokes can be found online and using props can alleviate some of the attention!
Practice and more
Practice is the key to a good speech - that and not drinking too much champagne beforehand! Write down the speech a few times so you gradually learn the words. Recite the speech frequently - whilst out running, walking to the station - it will really help on the big day. Finally write the speech out clearly and take it with you. You may not need it - but at least you will know where to look should you need to!
