A guide to Marbella

From beaches to the old town, bull rings to fantastic shops Marbella has a lot to offer. To help you get the best out of your trip to this beautiful part of the Costa del Sol we have compiled a brief guide on what not to miss!

Historic Town

The historical old town of Marbella is a maze of stunning cobbled streets and old whitewashed buildings. The scent of bougainvillea fills the narrow alleyways in the summer months. It really is picture perfect, set against the backdrop of the Rhonda Mountains.

The old town is full of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. At its centre is the Plaza De Los Naranjos (Orange Square) which is packed with restaurants and cafes, a perfect place to enjoy a cold beer and watch Marbella go by.

Marbella has several fantastic public parks. The Park de la Constitucion often has open air music concerts in summer.

Beaches

Just a few moments walk from the Plaza De Los Naranjos are the main beaches of La Venus and La Fontanilla. In the district of Marbella there are actually 24 beaches in total although these two are the closest to town.

  • Los Venus Beach is a wide, sandy and popular with tourists. It’s very clean (both beaches are raked nightly during the summer months) with umbrellas and sun loungers for hire. Water sports are available for the energetic - pedalos, waterskiing and banana rides. Restaurants and bars are situated at the back of the beach - ideal for lunch.
  • La Fontanilla Beach is also located only a few moments walk from the old town. This long popular beach also has plenty of water sports on offer. With many cafes and restaurants at the rear of the beach it's a perfect place to enjoy a cold beer after a hard day at the beach!

  • Bullring

You can visit the Plaza de Toros. This bull ring was built in 1964 with a capacity of 9,000 spectators. Bull fights do still occur, although mainly during the summer months.

    Shopping

You cannot avoid the subject of shopping in Marbella! In the centre of Marbella you will find many clothing boutiques – although very nice most will leave a bit of a dent in your pocket! Alternatively visit the town market held every Monday with stalls selling local food produce, clothing and shoes.

If you miss the market on Monday then head to La Canada Shopping centre - open 7 days a week (check locally for public holiday closures). As well as many UK clothing shops you will also find restaurants, a multi screen cinema and a ten pin bowling alley. Parking is free and disabled access is good.
