A guide to Benalmadena

The Resort of Benalmadena is split into 3 main areas; the beaches and marina, the old town and the commercial centre. Most of the hotels and apartments are situated along the coastline and marina area. The real attraction of Benalmadena is the nightlife – during the summer months the bars and clubs are heaving giving the resort a great party atmosphere.

Resort

Although situated close to Torremolinos, Benalmadena retains a more laid back feel and lacks the urban concrete tower blocks that where bestowed upon Torremolinos in the 70's. The beaches here are clean and sandy, and very popular during the summer season. There are plenty of watersports on offer. The seafront promenade is well designed and actually goes all the way to Torremolinos.

Marina

Benalmadena's Marina is a relatively new complex which gives a very cosmopolitan feel to the resort here you will find plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants. This area really comes to life at night, it’s beautifully lit and very popular. In true Costa del Sol style the bars and clubs open very late. In short it’s the pace to be after sunset!

Cable car

Arroyo de la Meil is Benalmadena's commercial centre - mostly a business and residential area.  You can visit Tivoli World here and also hop on the cable car which travels 725 metres up Monte Calamorro – the panoramic coastal views from here are amazing.

Old Town

Benalmedena Pueblo (old Town) is situated on the hillside overlooking the coastline.  Here you can still catch a glimpse of traditional Andulucian life.  Tourism and new development has reached this area but it still retains a much more relaxed pace of life than Benalmadena’s resort centre.

Out of town

If you fancy a day away from the beach you can visit one of the resorts popular attractions or see the Costa Del Sol section.

  • Benalmadena's Sealife Centre is located in the port.  Here you can view over 5,000 different sealife specimens - including some deadly reef creatures.  Take a fishes view on the sharks and sting rays in the underwater glass tunnel.
  • Tivoli World. located just outside Benalmadena this theme park has over 40 different rides for all ages.  Daily shows and exhibitions, including a Jurassic Adventure with life sized Dinosaur models.
