Barcelona is not short of a bar or two!!

You don’t have to go very far in Barcelona to realise that more or less every kind of watering hole is catered for. Should you be looking for an Irish bar, English pub, wine bar, music bar or maybe a traditional Catalan bar it’s all here and plenty more as well.

Late start & tourist areas

Most bars don’t get really busy until around 10-11pm as traditionally the Spanish do not leave the restaurants until 10ish. Although most tourist areas will be busy from early evening. Especially in the summer months when Barcelona can be heaving with people out for a great night on the tiles.

Around the Barris Gotic, Old Quarter and Las Ramblas you will find quite an ecliptic mix of old bars and new modern wine and music bars. Along the main tourist drags prices will tend to be higher than further off the beaten track.

When the beach area of Barcelona was redeveloped for the Olympic Games lots of bars where included in this area. The atmosphere here is good - many tourists make this their regular haunt. The area of El Raval is quite a quirky area and has a few trendy bars opening (just be careful where this area joins Las Ramblas as pickpockets work this area).

Top drops

Enjoy a glass of Guinness at P.Flhaerty’s Irish bar (pl. Joaquim Xirau). Good central location just off Las Ramblas. Normal Irish bar set up with a good large menu. Gets very busy, popular with stag and hen parties searching for the craic.

Catch the footy at The Philharmonic pub (L’Eixample). Attracts a good mix of locals and tourists (mostly Brits and Americans expats). Entertainment varies from line dancing, salsa classes, pub quizzes and of course the sport. Good menu, open every day.

For something a little different try El Xampanyet (nr the Picasso Museum). Delicious Tapas which you can wash down with a glass of chilled Cava (No beer). Rustic with a chilled edge. No door policy or need to dress up, just great food. If your Spanish is minimal just point to the delicious dishes on display at the bar. Hard to find – but well worth it.
